Day 16

With my entire day being designated to a team meeting, half of whom are in the Fitbit challenge, we managed to squeeze a team walk in to our lunch agenda. With disappointment radiating through a couple of members, who realised that their position in the ranks was not changing, as the other competitors were completing the same walk as them. I was back sitting nicely in my rightful position at the top of the table.

By home time the germs were taking hold, my throat felt like sandpaper and my eyes were heavy, so I attempted a short nap before football, which resulted in 0 sleep. Back in kit, and off we went to football for some running around the outside of a pitch, running in to different positions in a square of the pitch and running around chasing a ball, on the pitch. It wasn't all bad though, we ended on (wait for it) shuttle runs...

With breathing through my nose becoming a distant memory, I ushered my darth vader sounding self off home to bed.

Day 17

With minimal sleep and a freshly red rudolph nose (turning up a little late for the season), I dragged myself to the office for a whole 3 hours, before retreating home to work in bed. With my position in the Fitbit challenge holding steady with a 9,000 step lead, and my biggest competitor also feeling unwell, the competitive edge that has held so strongly for the last couple of weeks appeared to be crumbling, with comments being made to throw in the exercise towel for the evening, and strive instead for naps.

With a couple of hours left of the evening and some relaxing time spent staring with eyes half open at the TV screen, I checked in on Fitbit for what was intended to be my final sync of the week. My lead had drastically lessened to only a 1,000 steps and I was at risk of losing. With a quick thinking excuse of needing ice cream to soothe my sore throat, Sam reluctantly put on her shoes and we drove to Asda where I managed to squeeze in about 90 laps of the store, whilst actually only needing one aisle. A few more laps of the house after getting home, and I had secured what I felt was enough of a lead to go back to bed.

In the rush to squeeze in enough steps before deadline, I forgot to eat my ice cream...

Day 18

With a late hockey game for the day, and only a bare 11 players confirmed, I decided it would be best to try and sleep off as much of the bug as I could, as pulling out of the game wasn't an option. Surfacing to the land of the living around 1pm I layered up and made it to the clubhouse. Thankfully with a couple of other volunteer drivers, I managed a 45 minute dose in the car on the way to the game and prepared my best 'I can't wait to run around in the cold' face.

We finished the game 0-0, taking away a well earned point from another team fighting for top spot in the league, and headed to the pub for teas. With an offering of homemade sausage rolls, chips and chicken goujons, I felt the outing was now worth the burning feeling now in my chest and the coughing fits I was inevitably about to endure.

By the time I got home, I had received my Fitbit winners trophy - Honestly I'm not a competitive person, I'm always the first to admit it...
