Day 31
So I made it to the final day of RED January, slipping to hit my step target on a couple of days throughout the month, when the germs had overtaken me. As a team, we decided we should end the event in style, so after a quick brainstorm, we booked in for LaserKombat.
Arriving promptly at 7pm, with fighting talk all go, we were split in to two teams of 5, and presented with our coloured vests and guns. Come on you RED team!
The first game started aggressively, with Sam running head first in to at least 3 people on my team in her excitement. With both teams running circuits of the course, spotting a few smarter (or lazier) members camped out in small corners awaiting their attacks on passers by, the first game finished in the blink of an eye.
With the GREEN team taking the win after the first game, and a few comments being thrown in my direction about the loss (not that I've become renowned for enjoying a win every once in a while), we headed back in for our second game.
The teams ran in with full force - in some cases literally, I nearly took a gun to the face on more that one occasion. By mid game I quickly realised that skinny jeans had not been my best outfit choice, but I would persevere and the scores revealed that I finished top shooter of my group.
After an obligatory photo shoot....

... we headed home on a high :)
I was of course still conscious of my workweek Fitbit challenge, that I had been quietly winning throughout the week, until a huge comeback was made by another competitor, leaving her in the lead after laser tag. So I did what any sane person would, and dragged Sam out for a long walk to get ice cream. She's such a lucky girl!
After suffering on the losing team twice that day, I at least came out as the Fitbit winner!
End of day step total: 18,275
Epilogue
After pushing myself continuously throughout the month to be as active as I possibly could, whilst also taking my health in to consideration, taking a few days out to rest and get better, I can honestly say I feel good. I've had more energy day to day, watched far less Netflix and may have even lost a pound or two (although I have in no way improved my diet, so that isn't guaranteed).
RED Jan gave me something to focus on throughout the most miserable month of the year. I didn't have time to focus on the after Christmas slump or how miserable the weather was, because I was too busy planning my weekly activities and plotting how to get in extra steps so I could win Fitbit. It was exactly what I needed for the start of the year and I believe has ingrained some good habits in to me, that will keep my daily activity levels up throughout the year.
After some disappointment at the month coming to an end, a couple of us decided that we might now start 'FRED' - an acronym invented by a RED-Janner, which stands for 'February Run Every Day'. With a wedding just around the corner, I need every excuse to keep active, so to motivate myself, the blog continues. We've gained a couple of newbies who also want to join the challenge, so watch out February, we're coming for ya!
