Day 3
I didn’t think I would have been struggling 3 days in, but honestly dragging myself to the gym on a Friday night was the hardest thing I’ve done so far this year (we love an exaggerated time joke over the first week of the new year – Also used on NYD is ‘I’ll remember 2019 like it was yesterday’). Half hour on the treadmill and some limited weights were enough for me to not feel guilty and I retreated home.

Day 4
Thanks to the long drawn out Christmas period, hockey doesn’t start until next week. With consideration of the fact that I had to play football the following day after a reasonably long break, I didn’t want to push myself too hard, so opted for a 4 hour hike around a shopping centre. Step count target achieved, with Fitbit awarding me the day toward my exercise for the week, obviously assuming that my elevated heart rate meant I was working out rather than repeatedly checking my balance and hoping it was an error.

Day 5
First football match of the new year, and only my third game for a new club. There were some positives to take from the game, like not losing a boot in the boggy pitch and saving Sam from a suspected asthma attack, which later turned out to be a very dramatic account of her swallowing a fly… The game ended in a 3-1 loss, but at least I had a busy game to keep me warm, throwing myself at peoples feet, hoping to not get kicked or trodden on. As a team there are definitely some points to work on to take in to future games.
